About AB Invest

AB Invest develops with its heart and mind. We are a long-term manager and future-oriented destination developer of property. Since our inception, we have built over 20 hotels, developed over 500,000 square metres of commercial property, and developed and sold more than 400 holiday homes and approximately 600 residential units.

 

By keeping our team small and focused, we stay closely involved in every project. It is a recipe we have followed since 1985, enabling quicker decision-making, stronger partnerships and smoother processes.
 

We are a long-term manager and future-oriented developer of commercial property in the Nordic region, with a focus on hotels and offices. In addition, we develop residential and holiday properties that both stand out and endure over time. Through our ownership in Alpinco, we operate the Hafjell and Kvitfjell destinations in Gudbrandsdalen and now Oppdal, which includes the facilities, land development, commercial property and holiday properties. A solid destination developer.

History

Since 2012, AB Invest has been the owner of AlpinCo, which owns and operates the Hafjell and Kvitfjell destinations. Recently, we increased our ownership stake from 40% to 80%. As the principal owner of AlpinCo, we are increasing our focus on further developing the destinations. AB plays a key role in the destination development of the facilities, including land development, commercial property and holiday properties. AB purchased Oppdal Ski Resort in 2024.

  • 1985

    AB Invest AS was founded by Arthur Buchardt. The main focus during the first years of the company was the development of commercial property, primarily around Lake Mjøsa.

  • 1991

    Our first hotel development project, Quality Hotel Hafjell (now Scandic Hafjell), is built and completed well in time for the 1994 Winter Olympics. This paves the way for the journey into hotel development. It also marks the start of a close and ongoing collaboration with Strawberry (formerly Nordic Choice Hotels).

  • 2000

    Five hotels are developed and completed, all with Strawberry as the hotel operator. We have now established ourselves in Øyer, Kristiansand, Sarpsborg, Oslo, Gardermoen and Stavanger.

  • 2006

    Anders Buchardt transitions from working in his own business to becoming involved in the construction of Clarion Hotel Sign. He thus becomes part of the company.

  • 2008

    We strengthen our relationship with Strawberry (formerly Nordic Choice Hotels) and establish a joint hotel property development company, PASAB Eiendomsutvikling. Several hotel projects are developed in this partnership, including Clarion Hotel Post, Comfort Hotel Runway, and Quality Hotel Friends. We acquire 50% of Hafjell Alpine Resort and establish Alpinco. Through Alpinco, we acquire Kvitfjell Alpine Resort.

  • 2010

    We enter into a partnership with Aker Solutions and are responsible for the development of their new headquarters in Hinna, Stavanger. At Fornebu, we develop the Quality Hotel Expo and the office premises for Aker Solutions.

  • 2016

    AB begins investing in the development of holiday homes.

  • Agate Utvikling, the company responsible for housing development, is established.

  • 2017

    AB acquires 100% of the shares in PASAB Eiendomsutvikling.

  • 2019

    Mjøstårnet is awarded the title of the world's tallest wooden building.

  • Fýri Resort opens with the Swedish hotel operator ESS Group. Fýri Resort becomes their first hotel in Norway and features a unique concept in the mountains.

  • 2024

    AB initiates the development of the Hoxton Oslo hotel, together with the international lifestyle brand Ennismore. This makes Oslo the first city in the Nordic region where Ennismore chooses to establish itself.

  • Both our portfolio and number of employees have grown. AB has developed over 20 hotels, 19 office properties, sold over 400 holiday homes, and approximately 600 residential properties. In total, we have just nine employees.
